The kitchen is dismal...the hall and stairway depressing...we managed to get the upstairs mostly painted the first year all in soft shades of blue and periwinkle, for a dreamy, sleepy, cozy, magical feeling. The downstairs has been a work in progress. I love bold colors and so it's the tricky part of getting just the right shade of yellow or orange or green or red. I want saturated, warm, inviting, vibrant colors downstairs. The green we chose for the living room is gorgeous, love the earthy cinnamony red in the Zen TV room and the punched up Carribean blue in the bathroom is divine. Now it's the kitchen and the hallway...we're deciding how we feel about the yellow we selected for the hall and stairway. It's called 'soft duckling' and it looked very soft and buttery and ducklingish on the chip but on the wall it looks...really, really yellow...like a loud, quacking, intrusive duckling. We're going to live with it this week and see if we feel it's happy and bright or just obnoxious. We did two paint runs for the green we're using on the kitchen cabinets...my first selection of parsley sprig was a little too yellow, then we took home two slightly more saturated granny smith apple greens that were both called asparagus. Do we like asparagus...or asparagus? I think it's asparagus.
The orange is now being dubbed rorange because it packs a real punch! I'm thinking about stamping or stenciling pop art flowers on the faces of the cabinets over the green base, it's going to be a pop art meets Shaker kitchen.
Beneath my weekly links are some photos of the colors...in case you're actually intrigued!

Oh I had a feeling you'd like these colors, they're zesty and spicy and lively like you! The best part about using vibrant colors is that you don't have to do much more to have the room look fabulous.
I have to see your green bedroom when it's finished!

Thank you! It's such a funky little old house, it really needs color to feel cozy and it's taken me three years to pick the right orange and yellow!
