A Few Simple Questions

A Brief Jewelry Making Survey

1. Tell me what is (or are) your biggest frustration(s) or stumbling block(s) with jewelry making?

2. Are there specific tools or components that you wish existed?

3. Are there techniques you find particularly difficult or challenging?

4. What fails most often in your work? Meaning what materials give you the most problems with breaking, being difficult to use as directed or not working as intended?

5. If you make or are intrigued by the idea of making 'mixed media' jewelry, what items would you like to see together on the shelves that you aren't currently seeing?

Yes, Madge is working on some ideas and she needs your input. I'm all about making it easy, fun and satisfying and I think there are better ways to do that. I need to know what you need and desire so that I can (hopefully) work to create products that serve you best.

Thank you in advance for taking a moment to answer my questions.

Craft on with your bad selves,

Madge

I have to tell you how much fun it is to recognize someone's books hanging at the stores and say, "I know her!!" I always stop and pick one up and ohh and ahh over them.

Interesting survey.
1. Free form wire wrapping. I know I need practice but it is frustrating to me.
2. Not that I know of
3. Bead caps never seem to fit the way they are measured in directions or selling information. (eg. 6 mm , 6 mm what? fits 6mm beads, measures 6 mm, measures 6mm where?)
4.Crimps. I've managed to make it better but they sometimes fail. I've also seen conflicting instructions. (use the round part of crimping pliers first or second?)
5. I'm intrigued with mixed media art. But definitely need some ideas first. Right now I use fibers to make Kumihimo. Most I've mixed my media so far.

Hope this helps somewhat.

oh lordy=this week its my rusty skills level. In general, its not having a good jewelry supply store in this supposedly creative city I live in.

2. Are there specific tools or components that you wish existed? hmm....not that I can think of.

3. Are there techniques you find particularly difficult or challenging? This week- it is everything. But in general, I'm not very good at wirework.

4. What fails most often in your work? Meaning what materials give you the most problems with breaking, being difficult to use as directed or not working as intended? Alot of resins I use have flaws. I use alot of vintage/found objects and sometimes they just fall apart due to age-which can be frustrating. Also I find alot of the jewelry tools on the market for the general crafty public are really crappy. I break a pair of steel jewelry pliers every year (photo on flicker to prove it LOL). I'm now upgrading slowly to expensive tools so I don't have this problem.

5. If you make or are intrigued by the idea of making 'mixed media' jewelry, what items would you like to see together on the shelves that you aren't currently seeing? Better adhesives is one, I have a ton of glue but still always feel like I need a BETTER glue.

not sure any of that helps or not!

I need to find a GOOD jewelry glue, which I can use to adhere flat back Swarovsky crystals to my soldered jewelry.. that does not goop, does not smell bad, is easy to use and does not give me horrible sinus allergies for the next two days straight (so that buyers think I am sick & do not want to come near me...UGH)!
Oh... I need it to be accessible in Western Canada.
Please help Margot!!!

Keep smiling and crafting,
Nicci
